The VM ends up on the C: drive in a .VirtualBox folder, and not on the USB. the external that windows 7 is installed on will only run if it is plugged into the same port every time. I use it for VLC and Firefox alot so know it works fine. check over here this is stupid.
Followed the directions and when time came to reboot i just removed the HD and put it back into the laptop and started it up.
